Malabar Cancer Centre, Thalassery (MCC) is an autonomous institution under Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Kerala started with an aim to establish a comprehensive cancer centre, providing the much-required oncology care to the population of Northern region of Kerala and neighbouring parts of Karnataka and Tamilnadu states. The main objective of the centre is not only to provide comprehensive cancer care but also to develop as a Research and Training Centre of international standards.
Cancer in all forms is responsible for about 12% of deaths globally. One third of all cancers are preventable and awareness activities can play a long way in cancer prevention.In the era of ICT, the Online Cancer Awareness programme plays a very important role. In Kerala the usage of mobile and internet is very high and also peoples are very much active in social media like Face book, Twitter and Whatsapp. For using the strength of these social media, we can create an effective way of cancer awareness programme. Cancers related to tobacco use, heavy use of alcohol and obesity are most effectively prevented through a combination of education and social policies that encourage healthy behaviors. Awareness leads to early detection of cancers and provides greater chance that treatment will be successful. Early detection is associated with better prognosis and higher survival rates, and is therefore considered the key to cancer control. Online Cancer awareness project helps us to attain these objectives. We hope the fear prevailing about cancer in the society and the ability to fight against cancer will definitely show its fruits through the awareness programme.
The Aware & Awake: The online cancer awareness project of MCC is implementing in association with National Service Scheme and IHRD NSS Cell is co-coordinating the same. As part of this project, we are conducting a Short Film Competition for HSS and college Students. Please see the attached rules and regulation for this competition and kindly may do the needful.
